Untitled, for Nine

After an altar call

Rev. Clementa C. Pinckney
Cynthia Hurd
Rev. Daniel Lee Simmons, Sr.
DePayne Middleton-Doctor
Ethel Lee Lance
Myra Thompson
Sharonda Coleman-Singleton
Susie Jackson
Tywanza Sanders

Do you hear the poetry?
Do you hear the music
and love in these names?

These women and men are sisters and brothers,
mothers and fathers, aunts and uncles,
grandmothers and grandfathers.

These blessed women and men are ours.

All lives matter.
Black lives matter.
These lives matter.

These blessed people
are poems
taken away from us.
