[9]
I’m eight, will be nine.
I’m only a boy.
[69]
Dad said Be quiet and watch.
We thrilled to “The Eagle has landed”
& Armstrong’s first step on the moon,
“We came in peace for all mankind,”
& placing the American flag.
The Vietnam war grinds on;
it is never ending. So many have died.
If I’d been older, I would’ve been there.
I was only a boy, wasn’t thinking how
our triumphs are ours, our failures are ours.

Very moving, Andy. I like how you achieve the double perspectives of child and adult here.
Hi again, Jennifer.
Thank you very much for your comments.
I’m still trying to figure this project out! The constraints in number of words offer some interesting challenges.
I’m so glad to see that you are writing poems and participating in NaPoWriMo ~ 2013 also. Yaayyy!!!!
Blessings to you and your family, Andy
