The Quotidian, October 13, 2010 ~ Borrowing from our Children

“We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.” ~ Native American Proverb

This quote was used as the epigraph to the documentary “Tar Creek.” I just watched this fine, poignant documentary this afternoon.

Tar Creek is a creek running through lead mining country in the far northeastern corner of Oklahoma. There are hills and mountains of chet, the heavy-metal laden gravel residue of the mining over decades.

Quotation verified through use of indigenouspeople.net, accessed October 12, 2010.
