The Quotidian, August 8, 2010 ~ People Want Peace

“Indeed, I think people want peace so much that one of these days, governments had better get out of their way and let them have it.” – Dwight David Eisenhower (October 14, 1890 to March 28, 1969)

This is one of several notable quotes from Eisenhower on peace.

As a five star general, he led the Allied forces in the invasion of France and Germany in 1944 – 1945, and later became the 1st Supreme Commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Eisenhower, a Republican, was the 34th President of the United States.

As he left the office of the Presidency, he warned about the “military – industrial complex.”
