The Quotidian, July 31, 2010 ~ Justice

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” and: “Environmental justice for all is civil rights in the 21st century.” – Majora Carter (born October 27, 1966) (both quotes are from Carter).

Majora Carter is a visionary. She is the founder of Sustainable South Bronx, an organization working on re-greening the South Bronx, an area with a long history of environmental degradation.

Here’s the link for her organization: http://ssbx.org/

Take a look at the “before” and “after” photographs of Hunt’s Point Riverside Park in The Bronx. Very inspiring!

Majora Carter was a featured speaker at the TED (Technology Entertainment Design) gathering in 2007.  I found her talk about Sustainable South Bronx and environmental justice to be riveting. She is a fine and energizing speaker.

If you haven’t seen the documentary The Future We Will Create: Inside the World of TED, please watch it! It is an antidote to despair, helplessness, and hopelessness.
