The Quotidian, July 21, 2010 ~ Giraffes

“Save the giraffes.” – Erin Newberry

OK, to lighten things up a bit, I want to use a quote from a good friend of mine.

Erin Newberry is feisty, fabulous, fierce, and funny. She is a big fan of giraffes. I agree: they are amazing creatures. One day she told me of the magic in feeding a giraffe from her hand.

For a few years now Erin has been telling me that we must save the giraffes. Indeed.

Now, from giraffes to change and transformation.

Have you heard of the “Giraffe Heroes Project”? The mission of the Project is to “find real people acting with extraordinary courage on a broad range of important issues and to tell their stories to millions of others through the media and in schools.”  [Back cover of Stick Your Neck Out: A Street-Smart Guide to Creating Change in Your Community and Beyond (2005), by John Graham].

So, Graham and Ann Medlock founded the Giraffe Heroes Project to help  empower people to “stick their necks out on the public problems they care about.”

I’ll end with a quote: “Support the Giraffe Heroes Project.” – Andrew Shattuck McBride
